- The Bone Strength Project: Update No. 2 (2021)

[3 pages] It has been a long while since my previous Bone Strength Project update. With conventional training, this might be cause for objection but since bone tissue takes such a long time to adapt, extended time frames are necessary. If you are engaging in heavy support training of the sort that have been discussed here, one of the best pieces of advice that I can give you is that to actually make this training work, you'll be in it for the long haul--we are talking months of consistent workouts, if not years. Results from heavy support training will certainly not show up over night....keep reading

- Slim The Hammer Man: King of The Leverage Lift (1979)

"...Slim Farman is the master of a feat of strength known as The Leverage Lift. And though it might not sound like much -- lifting a 25-pound hammer -- the stunt is amazingly difficult. When Farman lifts a 25-pound hammer with a 30-inch handle, he is not simply raising 25 pounds. It is not the same as fooling around with a 25-pound dumbbell. The laws of physics don't work that way. The hammer might only weigh 25 pounds but that weight is 30 inches away from your hand. When you multiply the weight by the handle length (25 times 30) the product is known in physics as the torque -- 750 inch-pounds. ..."

- Hepburn's Law (1980)

[44 pages] Building muscle and strength is a process that requires a great deal of time. We often talk on the order of years, therefore, if one is only benefiting 50% from his workouts, it would take twice as long to get the same results as someone who was getting 100% benefit and efficiency from his workouts. Now, if it takes a minimum of 5-7 years to become a champion working out at 75% to 100% efficiency, think how long it would take if you were only getting 25% to 50% efficiency from your workouts! The odds are that you would never make it. You must make every workout count, so be wise and follow a routine that has proven itself by producing champions--this is The Hepburn System....keep reading
- Newspaper Crushing: A Under-Rated Grip Exercise

In Kim Wood's "Breakfast with Bullough" article, you were introduced to the interesting idea of using a simple newspaper to build grip strength. The great amateur wrestler Dan Hodge also trained in a similar manner and his grip strength was legendary (he could crush an apple or snap a pair of pliers with one hand!), so there should be no question as to the value of this type of training....keep reading

[19 Pages] What follows is a sneak peak of The Dellinger Files: Volume II which is a work that is still very much in progress. Obviously that has been the status for a long time now, and while the final edit will probably have some additional commentary, images etc., this excerpt should give you a very good taste of things to come. Regardless, please let us know what you think so far and please keep an eye out for the finished product once it is finally ready.

- A Visit To Slim The Hammer Man's House

[51 minutes] Once a year, from 2006 through 2008, a small group of strongmen would meet at Slim the Hammer Man's house for some good food, fellowship and fun. While occasionally our antics took place in the house or yard, our greatest times occurred in Slim's training facility and museum, known as "The Dungeon." This video contains a selection of feats and discussions that took place.Watch, learn and enjoy as steel bars are mangled using various bending styles, an unusual horseshoe is twisted, chain is burst, a heavy ax is levered, "Goliath" is destroyed, and unusual feats are performed. PLUS, see the late New Jersey Superman, Greg Matonick perform amazing Iron-Jaw feats!...keep reading
- Who's Afraid of the Big Bad Wolff? "Wolff's Law" and Bone Functional Adaptation

I ran across this very interesting study during my reasearch on "Bone Strength" and related topics. The afore-mentioned "Wolff's Law" is much the same for bone as the SAID principle is for muscular tissue, in other words, as long as a demand can be placed that is strong enough to trigger the growth response, adaptation can take place.
This has certainly been the case with my own training but regardless, this is some very interesting food for thought. The full list of studies, references and resources is invaluable if you'd like to pursue more on this topic....keep reading

- Health & Development of the Abdomen (1938)

[36 pages]The abdominal sector, better known as the waist region, is rightfully referred to as the zone of health and youthfulness. Its flat, trim, streamline demonstrates both health and fitness, with the vigor of youth. During the growing stages of the body, it is not as subject to the accumulation of fat as it is in later years. The body tissues absorb fat as fuel to build the muscular forces into maturity. Then again, during youth a greater interest is taken in the participation of sports and the culture of the body. Once maturity is reached, only too often does one become absorbed in the struggle for success and self preservation, less time and thought is given to the care of the body. One becomes negligent, overwork, over time with late hours begin to contribute to the degeneracy of the body and its health. The premature aging of the body becomes obvious with the first sign of an increasing waist girth, which usually occurs in our thirties and early forties....keep reading

"One way of looking at training is realizing that you are always directly facing the battle between "effort and form"... If you are committed to getting the most out of your training (and not everyone is) you are always pushing to do better but at the same time you've also got to...
